Some movies are not worthy to see again.  Heck, some movies, many many films are not even worthy to see even once!

But this Copperhead movie – I rented it for two days and I am now as we blog going through the third try tonight!  Abner Beech is a hero; his character is for the most part (He has a couple of scenes where is a bit too violent in tone for my liking) standing for what he thinks is right:  The war is unconstitutional, unnecessary, Lincoln has exceeded his power, put newspapermen in jail, drafting kids to fight fellow Americans, The Union is important but not the greatest good in the United States, etc.  The contrast between Beech and the abolitionist is stark:  Hagedore is a Pharisee, judgmental and cold – even to his children.  The election scene is fabulous and worth the cost of renting the movie.

Again, everybody should see this movie.  It explains the truth about the so-called Civil War better than any I have seen.  It also shows the power of movies to send a message – even a political or historic one – to the masses.

Copperhead is a movie about faith – about true faith and false faith too.  Followers of Jesus should see it.  It is evident throughout the movie:  We were a Biblical Republic at one time.

Copperhead is on demand in many cable areas.  Homeschool parents:  It’s a must but parents better review Horatio Seymour and Lewis Cass before you watch it with your kids!

UPDATE:  One of the real heroes of the movie is the abolitionist Jehoiada Hagedore’s son Benaiah.  He seemed to be shiftless and even a bit slow perhaps but what he did was very brave and even courageous:  Ni, as he was called, went to the front to find Abner’s son.  I won’t give away the ending but Benaiah Hagedore was like his namesake! An excellent name for a baby boy.

The Benaiah in the Bible (another person those homeschool parents better look up before showing this movie to their kids! Here, I’ll help a bit.) is described in I Chronicles 11 as one who killed two Moabite soldiers in one battle, killed a lion in a pit on a snowy day, and beat a taller Egyptian with his own spear!  (see verses 22 and 23)  Benaiah sided with David in the Adonijah rebellion at a key moment.  He perhaps saved the day for David.  See I Kings 1:8. Benaiah was also Solomon’s commander in chief. (I Kings 4:4)

If you want to be a Benaiah, you need to follow Jesus. To know more about Jesus, go here.  The Christian church needs men and women with the courage of Benaiah today.  If you receive Jesus from reading this blog, welcome to the followers of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior!
